About

WHO
I'm Elisabeth, 29 years old, half Swiss and half Czech, residing by the beautiful Rhine Falls in Switzerland's northernmost canton, Schaffhausen. I grew up in Winterthur (25 kms/15 mi) south and moved here in 2004 to be closer to part of my family. (Don't tell anybody I hate it here and would love to move back, if I had the chance.)

WHY
I started this blog mainly for displaying my postcards collection. Thanks to the fabulous Postcrossing, it is constantly growing, and I'm thrilled to receive mail from all over the world and "growing" a collection of American postcards. I have a special fondness for the States because my fiancĂ© is American (born and raised in Greensboro, NC) and because, just as the blog name says, I'm a cowgirl at heart. I am crazy for all things Wild West, especially outlaws (lol).

WHAT
My favorite postcards to receive?
Maps, anything food or drink related (including recipe cards), bridges/locks/dams, ships/boats/trams/(subway) trains and stations... and subway maps, all things firefighting, all things Wild West, militaria (especially the American Civil War and the Red Army), native people or people in national costumes, Gotochi, Route 66, mountains, fall or winter landscapes, city views (especially at night), religious buildings, Soviet propaganda, stadiums/sports complexes, and last but not least all things hockey and badminton.

WHAT ELSE
Sports: Hockey! (Go Caps go!):-)

Books: I am a hopeless bookworm. My favorite authors? Truman Capote, Jack Kerouac, Mark Twain, John Steinbeck, Georges Simenon, Guy de Maupassant, Emile Zola, Friedrich Glauser.

Music: Woody Guthrie, CCR, Nanci Griffith, The Dixie Chicks, Gretchen Wilson, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Zac Brown Band, Johnny Cash, Eminem, Talib Kweli, Tezkej Pokondr, The Dubliners, The Wolfe Tones, Scorpions, the Grease soundtrack

Movies: Fargo, The Killing, Tampopo, Brother, Where Art Thou?, Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2, French Connection 1 and 2, The Big Lebowski, Gettysburg, Virgin Suicides, Almost Famous, Taxi Driver, Coffee and Cigarettes, Lonesome Jim, Reservoir Dogs, La Haine, Pulp Fiction, Trees Lounge, Entre les murs, Frozen River, The Green Mile, La Vida Loca, Grease, Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis

Games: Not really, but I am a huuuge fan of the Elder Scrolls Series and could play Oblivion all day long. (That eliminates the "not really", doesn't it?)

Other things: I have been a voluntary firefighter for eight years now and love it. I'm trying to teach myself the basic guitar chords, can more or less play the harmonica and re-started juggling recently.
